ACE Update - June 2018

Dear ACE colleagues,

If you haven't seen the Diversity Learning Community's new mission statement, check it out. This Learning Community (LC) is working hard to help all of us be more inclusive in our communications. Its mission:

THE MISSION OF THE ACE DIVERSITY LEARNING COMMUNITY IS TO PROMOTE, SUPPORT, AND ADVANCE ACE’S COMMITMENT TO RESPECT AND VALUE DIVERSITY BY SERVING AS A RESOURCE AND LIAISON FOR MEMBERS ON ISSUES OF EQUITY AND INCLUSION. WE INFORM AND EDUCATE ACE MEMBERS BY PROVIDING ENRICHING PROFESSIONAL OPPORTUNITIES THAT REINFORCE EQUITY AND INCLUSION AS BOTH MORAL AND BUSINESS IMPERATIVES. WE SEEK TO CREATE AND MAINTAIN A PLATFORM FOR DISCUSSION THAT DOES NOT JUDGE, BUT BROADENS OUR UNDERSTANDING AND RESPECT FOR EACH OTHER AND ALL PEOPLE; AND TO HELP ACE MEMBERS COMMUNICATE THIS  TO THE INSTITUTIONS AND COMMUNITIES WE SERVE.

Kudos to all of the Learning Community leaders for their efforts to bring professional development opportunities to us throughout the year. I've been impressed with the offerings and appreciate all of your work.

If you are looking for a way to get more involved with ACE, consider taking on leadership in one of the LCs. Leadership transitions take place at our upcoming conference. I can tell you from personal experience that LC leadership will connect you with smart, talented colleagues from across the country and help you grow professionally and personally. Drop me a line at steel.7@osu.edu and we can talk about your opportunities.

Finally, be sure to register for the Ag Media Summit. More than 650 have registered so far and it promises to be memorable and rewarding. I look forward to seeing you all there.

Suzanne Steel, ACE President

New Prairie Press Hosts Journal of Applied Communications

In 2017, ACE entered into an agreement with our Journal of Applied Communications (JAC) and New Prairie Press (NPP) at Kansas State University.

At no cost to ACE, JAC is now hosted on the New Prairie Press website, though www.journalofappliedcommunications.org redirects to the new URL used for marketing the journal. NPP also provides the review process software.

JAC is a peer-reviewed journal that is published quarterly.  While many of the articles share recent research in a variety of agricultural communications topics, other article formats include professional development, commentary, and reviews of new books, journal articles, software/hardware, technologies or anything else that would be appropriate for the audience of the JAC.

David Doerfert from Texas Tech University serves as JAC executive editor for the remainder of 2018 and Lisa Lundy from the University of Florida is the managing editor and will succeed David in 2019. The editors encourage all ACE members to submit articles for possible publication in JAC.

For information on article formats and how to submit a manuscript, check out the Information for Authors link on the web site.

The current issue illustrates the variety of topics that should interest many ACE members:
Previous issues dating back to 1969 are also available on the website.

ACE invests in JAC for our members, so please use and contribute to this professional resource. Be sure to check out the global map at the bottom of the home page to see the global reach of JAC!
