Suzanne Steel received a bachelor of science degree in agricultural economics, with a minor in journalism, from The Ohio State University.
She worked as a journalist for 16 years, first for Pennsylvania Farmer and Farm Journal magazines and then as agribusiness reporter for the Columbus Dispatch newspaper.
Steel now leads writers, designers and social media experts to boost the awareness and reputation of the College of Food, Agricultural, and Environmental Sciences, and to provide communications support for the college’s land-grant mission.
She joined ACE in 1996 and served as Special Interest Group (SIG) Director and as chair of the Marketing and Media Relations SIGs. She led a national team to create Media Relations Made Easy training materials and to plan the related workshop. She also served on a national image enhancement writing team for land-grant universities.
Steel has received an Oscar in Agriculture, as well as writing awards from the Associated Press of Ohio, the National Association of Agricultural Journalists and the Society of Professional Journalists of Ohio. She has been honored with bronze, silver and gold C&A awards from ACE, along with a Pioneer Award, the Service Award and the Media Relations Award of Excellence.
