Andrew Hopkins, a charter member of AAACE, was born July 19, 1880 in Leeds, Wisconsin. He graduated from the University of Wisconsin in 1903. During the next 10 years he helped organize a livestock breed association while also working as a farm paper editor. He served on the University of Wisconsin faculty from 1913 to 1950, where he was chairman of the agricultural journalism department. He was keenly interested in broadcasting and in 1919, made it a regular part of his department's information service. This is thought to be the first use of broadcasting by any university.
